Join us for a day in the woods, telling stories by the fireside and learning traditional crafts and skills such as lighting fires, making dens and shelters and creating cordage, carvings and keepsakes.
We have a number of locations available throughout South Wales for our bushcraft adventures and will design a bespoke day to perfectly suit your needs. Examples of the adventures we offer include:
Bushcraft / Outdoor Living Adventure (single day)
Join us as we make our way through beautiful countryside foraging for items to use as we develop a small bushcraft camp in order to learn and develop individual skills.
Throughout your bushcraft adventure you will cover:
Shelter building - using forest materials plus tarp' shelters
Fire lighting and maintenance of a fire - using ferro rods, flint and steel with char cloth and bow drill
Use of natural materials and cordage
Making bushcraft keep-sakes (such as tent pegs, bull-roarers or cordage depending on the season)
Use of hammocks
An introduction to camp-fire cooking
Bushcraft and Canoe Adventure (single day)
Immerse yourself in the tradition of open canoeing as we journey along the river Wye exploring the beauty and heritage of the landscape whilst learning how to efficiently paddle your canoe. Pausing your journey for lunch you will be able to undertake some of the core bushcraft skills (for example, fire lighting, knife work and shelter making) before we rejoin the water and continue our journey.
Your bushcraft session can include:
Shelter building - with woodland materials as well as tarp' shelters
Making bushcraft keep-sakes (such as tent pegs and nettle cordage, depending on the season)
Fire lighting - with ferro rods plus traditional flint and steel strikers with char cloth
Campfire Cooking Adventure (single day)
Follow in the footsteps of the Native Americans and Voyageurs, as they lived in the wilderness, by learning how to cook over open camp-fires using traditional methods and cast iron cookware.
This adventure day will give you the knowledge to lit and maintain a fire and to cook a range of foods, from snacks to impressive dinners, while indulging yourself in a cosy bushcraft camp and real outdoor living.
We will provide:
Fire, and tools needed to create and maintain it
Ingredients needed to cook a snack, starter and main meal
Crockery and cutlery
Tea / coffee
... all you need is an appetite for adventure and a taste for wood smoke!
Bushcraft & Canoeing Expedition (multi-day)
The beautiful river Wye flows for roughly 150 miles, with much of its length forming the border between England and Wales. Join us and paddle up to 100 miles of this majestic touring river, spending up to 5 days immersed in a remarkable and memorable canoe expedition.
You will be accompanied by a qualified and experienced guide for the whole experience - although how you use them is entirely up to you - your canoe guide will happily teach you paddle strokes and lead you down the river (sharing local legends and history, showing you wildlife and nature and even leading you into some games and sing-songs) but they will be equally happy fading into the background and providing the silent reassurance of safety and rescue cover whilst you take control of your trip, navigating along the greatest touring river in the country.
However you choose to utilise your canoe guide they will be available to help you set up camp at pre-arranged campsites along the river and will be able to share their bushcraft knowledge and skills as you establish a camp under canvas that will see you fall asleep under the stars, warmed by the glowing embers of a fire, just as the traders and voyageurs did while they travelled by canoe across North America.
'a4adventure' will provide you with the technical kit (knives, fire lighting equipment etc), qualified guide and full safety equipment needed for your adventure. You will need to bring your own clothes, waterproofs, appropriate shoes and snacks / soft drinks for the duration of the activity.
