There is, perhaps, nothing quite as much fun as floating about on the water! We absolutely love the burble of the river, the reflections on the lake and the song of the paddle as it slices through the water.
Join us for a day of paddle-sports and enjoy a watery adventure created just for you. Examples of the adventures that we offer include:
Guided Canoe River Trips (single day)
Develop your experience and skills as we canoe one of several sections of the rivers available to us; looking at paddle-strokes, control of the canoe and safe descent of the river.
Our guided trips are designed around your intentions for the day but can be focused on fun and games, nature and local history or purely on acquiring moving water skills and making best use of the river features on the way down.
Open Water Canoeing (single day)
Canoeing isn't just about descending rivers but has a brace of traditional skills and strokes to master on flat-water too. Join us to develop your paddle-strokes and explore skills such as tracking the canoes into the wind, poling, rafting and sailing the canoes and, if the mood takes you, exploring deep-water rescues of both paddler and canoe.
Join us on the most exhilarating of canoe experiences as we launch in the dusk and paddle into the darkness, learning to paddle silently as we tune into the wildlife and environment around us, and navigating around the lake in the darkness.
Canoeing & Bushcraft Adventures (single day)
Setting out onto the river you will develop your paddle strokes and control of the canoe as we journey through the beautiful countryside of the Brecon Beacons. Pausing your journey for lunch you will be able to undertake some of the core bushcraft skills (fire lighting, knife work and shelter making) before we rejoin the water and continue our journey.
Bushcraft & Canoeing Expedition (multi-day)
The beautiful river Wye flows for roughly 150 miles, with much of its length forming the border between England and Wales. Join us and paddle up to 100 miles of this majestic touring river, spending up to 5 days immersed in a remarkable and memorable canoe expedition.
You will be accompanied by a qualified and experienced guide for the whole experience - although how you use them is entirely up to you - your canoe guide will happily teach you paddle strokes and lead you down the river (sharing local legends and history, showing you wildlife and nature and even leading you into some games and sing-songs) but they will be equally happy fading into the background and providing the silent reassurance of safety and rescue cover whilst you take control of your trip, navigating along the greatest touring river in the country.
However you choose to utilise your canoe guide they will be available to help you set up camp at pre-arranged campsites along the river and will be able to share their bushcraft knowledge and skills as you establish a camp under canvas that will see you fall asleep under the stars, warmed by the glowing embers of a fire, just as the traders and voyageurs did while they travelled by canoe across North America.
Canoe / Kayak Skills Coaching
Join us for a day that is tailored and focused on developing the aspects of your paddling that you want to improve. We will work with you to decide your individual Objectives for the day and will then choose the best location to maximise the coached day.
We can help you work through technical paddle-strokes, tactical decision-making (for example, choosing the best line through a rapid or exploring exactly when to apply each stroke to achieve your desired outcome) as well as the psychological aspects of pre-planning, performing and dealing with the pressure or stresses that you may face as you 'push your grade'.
Each coaching day will finish with a review of your performance, providing you with a detailed logbook record as well as an action plan for your continued progression. Each of our coaching days can be linked to another one with us if you wish to continue developing your paddling into the longterm.
Our paddlesport adventures are suitable for participants aged 5 and upwards (when accompanied by their parent or legal guardian).
All of our adventures are Challenge by Choice. We will always start gently before slowly increasing the challenge on an individual and voluntary basis; you will not be forced into anything you are uncomfortable with and we can always move around areas or tasks that you are unhappy with.
'a4adventure' will provide you with the canoe / kayak, paddles and buoyancy aids, qualified guide and full safety equipment needed for your canoe adventure. You will need to bring your own clothes, waterproofs, appropriate shoes and food / soft drinks for the duration of the activity.
